So many people like the thought of a wrap-around porch, until they see one in use. Typically, there is an area of the porch that doesn’t get much access and it becomes a storage spot. More bothersome for me is that there is no part of the home that has a view other than a view of the porch that is wrapping the house. Wrap-around porches do look cool though, so…
I created this house plan to look like a wrap-around porch, without the “unneeded porch areas”. The porch serves as a breezeway between the separated garage and the home, and wraps to the front, where it serves as the covered entry porch, and then passes through a narrow path that opens up for the Owner’s Suite private deck.
Once inside the home you are greeted with a two-story Great Room with windows above and an overlooking loft. The stair rail leading to upstairs offers opportunity for a personal touch, and the overlooking loft can easily be converted to a bedroom if preferred.
Downstairs, the Dining and Kitchen are all open to one another and adjoin a Screened Porch at the back of the home. An uncovered Patio Area breaks the connection of the wrap-around porch to allow for views from the interior of the home.
The large Owner’s Suite is well appointed and approximate to the Laundry/Mud Room that opens to an uncovered deck. If you’ve been out “plowing the farm”, you could come through the Laundry, and have a short pass to your own bathroom from there.
The garage is separated by design. Not only does it assist for the “wrap-around porch look”, but it is a great opportunity for additional/semi-separated living space. I would suggest an outside stairwell with a small porch at the back for that. (There is enough space for a 2-bedroom apartment with full amenities, if it’s worth it to you to add some windows and a dormer or so.) The upstairs of the garage could also serve as attic storage with a pull-down stair as shown. You’re home? You’re call.
