Victorian Cottage House Plan

A new residential development was created near town that had a great park and walkways.  As the development grew, every home took on the same look- a two-story box w/ minimal front porches and a double-sloped roof.  It didn’t take long before the development as a whole began to seem drab.  Then, I got a call to create a house plan for the area and I interrupted the pattern in spades!

The first thing to do was to introduce some interesting shapes, such as is seen in Victorian style homes, which are a natural historical fit for the area. A turreted 2-story porch, an inset arched entry, and an upper “Juliet-style” balcony served that purpose. I added a side entry which provided plenty of distance for a ramp, if needed.  While this ramp was specific to the original build, such a ramp could be of use for access in the future or for ramping in furniture for now.  Your call!

Inside the home, the small living area is made to seem larger because it opens out onto the large covered porch on the front of the home. Also, it has a view onto that side entry patio on the opposite end, further expanding the visual space.  The side patio accesses through a Kitchen door and has a window that would be great for a small table.  The formalized Dining opens to the foyer and to the kitchen. The two suites are located to the rear of the home, offering privacy from the entertaining areas.  A small covered deck just off the laundry closet, serves as a private mud entry or access to a clothes line outside.

Both upstairs bedrooms have private decks, one much larger than the other. An overlook above the foyer adds to the interest of this design.  Another great feature is the upstairs window that overlooks the side patio and the views in that direction,

Finally, plenty of walk-out attic space is there for expansion if you can think of anything this design doesn’t already provide. There is an egress window that would allow another bedroom in the attic.  Otherwise, finished attic space might make a great recreation room, collections room, or theater.  Those are the kinds of things you get to choose, if you choose this design.
